March · A mixolydian
The Atholl Highlanders
March in A mixolydian, as printed in the band binder; no composer credit printed.
Sheet music transcribed by eye, unverified
Needs an ear. A model read the notes off the binder photo; nobody has played it back against the sheet yet. The chords are the ones printed on the sheet. Confidence: medium.
Transcriber's notes (which bars to listen to)
Read from IMG_0306 only (IMG_0393/0394 not needed; no glare on the staves, but the page is curved and the photo is slightly soft). 32 bars, four 8-bar strains, every strain repeated: strain 1 has no opening repeat sign but ends :||: (stave 2, bar 8); strain 2 ends :||: (stave 3, bar 4); strain 3 ends :| (stave 4, bar 6) and strain 4 opens |: (stave 5) and ends :| (stave 6). All bars sum to 6/8 per the checker. Rhythm is pipe-style dotted pairs (e>c) and reverse snaps (e<a, c<a, written 16th then dotted 8th). Pitches were read against deskewed staff overlays plus an automatic notehead-position pass; they agree on every bar. Slightly less certain: (1) bar 2 and bar 6 group 2 and the B-strain/strain-4 bar 4, written B>c d with the dotted note on B4 (dot clearly printed; pitch B4 not C5); (2) strain 3 bar 6 (stave 4 bar 4) is a E5 quarter then D5 eighth (flagged), read from a close zoom; (3) strain 4 bar 6 (stave 6 bar 2) group 2 is d>e f with the E5 16th partly hidden by a fold in the photo, confirmed on a close zoom. Key signature 2 sharps (F#, C#) with G natural throughout, final note A with A chord, so K:Amix (inventory said 2 sharps; confirmed). No credit printed under the title. Printed tune-type label 'March' at the right end of stave 1. Chord symbols are on the sheet and were copied as printed: A, D, E, G only. Chords sit over specific beats, so a few bars carry a second chord (E over B>c d, D over f>e d, etc.). No handwritten marks on the music. The binder shows yellow index tabs (letters B, C, D) at the page edge and faint show-through of print from the reverse side behind the title; neither is music.
Press play and the notes light up as they sound. Chord names above the staff are coloured by their root letter (the same colours as the song sheets). “Standard” and “Richer” are General-MIDI stand-ins hosted elsewhere; “Scruffy” is our own bank rendered from open sample sets (credits at /soundfont/scruffy-v1/CREDITS.md). Tempo slider is the “warp” control in the player.

Where it came from, where it went
How this setting was made. The notes and chord symbols are read from the band binder sheet (photo IMG_0306), by a model reading the photograph on 2026-10-27. The sheet's own chords are carried over unchanged. Nobody has yet played it back against the sheet: treat every note as a draft until it has been checked by ear.
