# Scruffy sound bank v1 -- sources, licences and credits

This folder holds the per-note MP3 sample set that the Scruffy Ceilidh tune player (abcjs 6.7.1)
loads when "Sound bank: Scruffy" is selected. Every note was rendered by us from the open
SoundFont sources listed below; nothing here is a copy of anyone's distributed file.
Built 2026-10-15 with `scripts/samples/build_bank.py` (FluidSynth 2.6.1 + ffmpeg 8.1.2; velocity 85,
3.0 s hold, one gain per instrument to a -10 dBFS peak, MP3 64 kbps mono 44.1 kHz). `manifest.json`
records the exact bank/preset and gain used for each folder.

music creation, private or commercial ... feel free to use it in your software projects, and to modify
the SoundFont bank or its packaging to suit your needs." The author adds that some samples came from
freely available SoundFont sites and he "cannot be 100% sure where all of the samples originated",
though none came from commercial packages. **Dr. David Hall accepted this provenance caveat for this
personal practice site on 2026-10-15**; if a restricted sample is ever identified, the affected
folder is re-rendered from another source. Per the author's request we do not link to his download
files; the SF2 itself is not hosted here.

### Not shipped: WARBL SoundFonts v2 -- Andrew Mowry
- https://github.com/amowry/WARBL2 (`webconfig/soundfonts/WARBL_SoundFonts2.sf2`). The file's own header
reads "public domain", but the repository licence is GPL-3.0 and the author has not confirmed the
samples' licence in writing. It was rendered ONLY into the temporary audition folder
(`/soundfont/audition/`) so the whistle could be compared by ear, and it is removed from the site
unless/until the author confirms. Licence request sent to the author via https://warbl.xyz/contact.html.

## Tools (not shipped)
- FluidSynth 2.6.1 (LGPL-2.1) -- https://www.fluidsynth.org
- ffmpeg 8.1.2 with LAME MP3 encoder -- https://ffmpeg.org
- File layout follows abcjs / midi-js-soundfonts (89 notes A0..Db8 per instrument, flat spellings):
