Pipe Major G.S. McLennan
Jig in D major, as printed in the band binder; composed by Pipe Major G.S. McLennan.
Sheet music transcribed by eye, unverified
Needs an ear. A model read the notes off the binder photo; nobody has played it back against the sheet yet. The chords are the ones printed on the sheet. Confidence: medium.
Transcriber's notes (which bars to listen to)
Read from IMG_0306 only; no glare, page curved and slightly soft. Credit printed on the sheet is 'Pipe Major G.S. McLennan' (not 'PM G.S. McLennan' as the inventory guessed). 32 bars in four 8-bar strains, each preceded by a one-quaver pickup (B); every strain is repeated. The pickup is printed before the first bar line of each strain: strain 1 has no opening repeat sign and ends :||: (stave 8, bar 8); strain 2 ends :||: (stave 9, bar 8); strain 3 ends :||: (stave 11, bar 8); strain 4 ends :| (stave 12). The last bar of every strain is 5/8 (f d c d2 / f e d e2): it is completed by the repeated pickup B; it was transcribed as printed, not padded. The checker counts 36 bars because it includes the 4 pickup bars. The closing note of strains 3 and 4 is E (Em chord) while strains 1 and 2 close on D: K:D chosen from the 2-sharp signature and the D chord opening and closing the first half; an E-dorian reading of the second half is possible. Pitches were read against deskewed staff overlays plus an automatic notehead-position pass; they agree on every bar. Least certain: stave 10 (distorted by page curl in the photo, so the overlay was patchy), bar 4 'a g e g2 B' (G5 quarter then B4 flagged eighth), and the third note of bar 3 in stave 7 (read as D5 at a photo seam, by pattern with the matching bar 2). No handwritten marks on the music. Page also carries three yellow index tabs at the edge (not music) and a footer 'Knoxville Scottish Music Club' (no thesession URL). Chord symbols as printed: D, G, A7, A, Em, C, Bm. Where a bar shows only one chord (or none) in print, only that is written (strain 2 bar 2 and bar 6 carry no chord on the sheet).
Press play and the notes light up as they sound. Chord names above the staff are coloured by their root letter (the same colours as the song sheets). “Standard” and “Richer” are General-MIDI stand-ins hosted elsewhere; “Scruffy” is our own bank rendered from open sample sets (credits at /soundfont/scruffy-v1/CREDITS.md). Tempo slider is the “warp” control in the player.

Where it came from, where it went
How this setting was made. The notes and chord symbols are read from the band binder sheet (photo IMG_0306), by a model reading the photograph on 2026-10-27. The sheet's own chords are carried over unchanged. Nobody has yet played it back against the sheet: treat every note as a draft until it has been checked by ear.
